The Zebra River TeamMarianne and I are Dutch and South African born, respectively, raised as English speaking South Africans and spent most of our time in South Africa in the Durban and surrounding areas. We met in a pub in a small country hotel at the beginning of March 1990, just before my move to Namibia. I arrived in Windhoek at the end of June1990 and Marianne at the end of June 1991. Our relationship survived the long distance test and we were married in February 1992 in Windhoek. We discovered the farm, Zebra River, at the end of 1991 and eventually bought at the end of 1992, debated the "lodge plunge" for almost a year and then went ahead in all earnest and eventually opened in March 1995.. . with two rooms!

Jana Sadly has left us Gail . . Desert Touch Massage
Our Zebra River "family" consists of 8 Nama speakers from Maltahöhe, and Gail.
Wilhelmina, is, with Isak, our longest serving staff member and her main duties are the laundry and assisting with household duties.
Anna, has returned after a few years away and we are pleased to have her back. She cooks very well and is very efficient.
Reweria, is our chief chef under the guidance of Marianne, who has taught her to be creative in her own right.
Isak & Wilhelmina, Isak has been with us since October 1996 and is a real jack of all trades. He drives well and does a lot of assisting with the trips around the farm and the general driving duties. Quietly confident in all that he does, he is an invaluable assistant to Rob. Wilhelmina, Isak's wife, has joined us in the last couple of months to replace Annalise
August & Claudia, August and Claudia, a husband and wife couple have been with us now for 3½ years, Claudia does general house keeping but can also hold her own in the kitchen when Reweria is away. August has joined us as a Tour Guide and we are please with the way the he does the trips into Sossusvlei. The days that there are no trips he then assists around the Lodge with the general running and gardening and any guided trips on the farm.
Mac,Joined us full time at the beginning of last year has has taken over a lot of the duties left by Jana.
Jana, from the Slovak Republic, Jana will be with us again in March but sadly she did not get the work permit we were hoping for. She will always be like a daughter to us and we have lots of contact
Gail, is from the United States and has been with us for 4½ years now doing a sterling job on the massage side. Gail started her small company called Desert Touch Massage here at the Lodge about three years ago after having been here as a guest in May 2002. Decided that the States was not for her and moved to Namibia in October 2002, applied for a work permit and without much ado has had one since. Qualified not only to practice but also to teach 6 different types of massage, she can really help you relax, however long your stay is, giving one and a half hour sessions.
